How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

August 24, 2016

Your air conditioner has had a lot of work to do this summer and we still have more heat on its way. Just because the date on the calendar has moved over to fall doesn’t mean you’re done with your AC for the season. Staying on top of annual AC maintenance, while also following a few other tips, can help you maintain your air conditioner while staying comfortable too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can pile up around your outside unit, specifically during the fall. When it comes time to rake up the leaves in your yard, make sure to rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can inhibit air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down quicker. We want your air conditioner to last as long as it can.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Keep your thermostat set at the highest temperature you can while still remaining cozy. Whenever possible, utilize supplemental cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to reach that temperature. You may think switching off your system completely will save on energy and help your system, but that just creates more ground for it to make up when you turn it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is another thing that could lead to premature system failure.

Keep Up With AC Maintenance

Keeping a well-maintained system with routine, annual AC maintenance is so essential. Our technicians will look at your air conditioner thoroughly and ensure the electric is working correctly, the coils and filters are clean and so much more.
